HOW WE WORK
The International Argo
Ocean Observing Network
Argo is an integrated global, full depth and multidisciplinary ocean observing network of 4,000 free-drifting profiling floats. This allows, for the first time, continuous monitoring of the temperature, salinity, velocity and biogeochemistry of the ocean, with all data being relayed and made publicly available within hours after collection.
Southern Ocean Argo Regional Centre
The Southern Ocean Argo Regional Centre is an international collaboration of partner institutions, and one of 5 Argo Regional Centres, with responsibility for validating all float data in the Southern Ocean through rigourous scrutiny, deriving Argo data products and helping to coordination development of the Argo project in the Southern Ocean.
Southern Ocean Observing System
SOOS is an international initiative with the mission to facilitate the collection and delivery of essential observations on dynamics and change of Southern Ocean systems to all international stakeholders (researchers, governments, industries), through design, advocacy and implementation of cost-effective observing and data delivery systems.
The SOARC Partners are working with the CLIVAR and Carbon Hydrographic Data Office (CCHDO) and SOOS to improve the Argo reference database for the Southern Ocean.
Could you contribute ship CTD data?
It is vitally important that data returned from Argo floats undergoes delayed-mode quality control to make it research ready.
SOARC partners are working to ensure all floats have a designated DMQC operator.
Argo Under Ice
As part of a contribution to the SOOS Under Ice Strategy, SOARC is working to support the development of under-ice positioning for floats operating under sea-ice.
